During my nature immersion and professional development course in Botanical Illustration in wintry Kew Gardens, London, I took stock of all the inspirations we received from nature and how we at Within Studio answered her call. We conducted two creative retreats in collaboration with Queen Sirikit Botanic Gardens in Chiang Mai, exhibited a botanical art installation at the Multiply event that was attended by almost 3,000 people over a weekend, completed large-scale paintings and botanical-related design work based on tropical plants for clients such as Mandai Park Holdings, GuocoLand, Ecosperity and Changi Airport Group.
Above all, we held close to 70 botanical art workshops - this meant we spent 6,750 minutes teaching and talking about the well-being and appreciation of art and nature. This does not include the other thousands of minutes spent researching, designing and improving new workshops and courses in botanical-related art for this year and the forthcoming 2018.
I am excited to share our four year-end botanical art workshops and our new exquisite 2-day course on plant identification and botanical art, to further enhance our appreciation and technical know-how of nature, supported by our generous sponsors from Faber-Castell, Jo Malone London, Mulberry England and Kate Spade New York, and wonderful hospitality partners, Pollen Singapore and COMO Cuisine.
Filled with this gratitude, I’ve been asking how we can give back this year. So I’m thrilled when I was asked to be one of the ambassadors for the National Volunteer & Philanthropy Centre (NVPC) for their Giving Week campaign (givingweek.sg) from 28 November to 5 December 2017. I felt my wishes have been answered since I’ve been searching for charity groups that we can support. I’ve decided to donate 10% of the three workshops proceeds to not one but two charity groups; “Wish A Magic Wand” by Home Nursing Foundation and UN Women, SG Committee.
I thank you in advance for coming to the workshops and course to celebrate this new way of being – a harmonious life-enhancing lifestyle rooted in nature, arts and well-being which is especially beneficial for city-dwellers. We look forward to seeing you to experience this time-honoured celebration of beauty in nature together.
I'll be away from 14 December to deliver a talk about my creative journey as a botanical artist at Creative Anarchy , an International Conference in Design Motion & Tech in Iloilo City, Philippines. From there, I'll be heading off to Big Island and Kauai, Hawaii for more botanical inspirations for 2018. I'll be sharing my journey in my IG stories and also time for me to start writing. I've been saying that for awhile now, and I think I'm ready.
May you light up within,
